JOIN GROWING BUSINESS FOUNDATION (GBF) TO CREATE NEW JOBS AND CELEBRATE 21 YEARS OF IMPACT ON YOUTH AND WOMEN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PYRAMID AT THE INAUGURAL GBF VROOM SUMMIT IN OCTOBER 2021.
Growing Businesses Foundation (GBF) is a non-profit organization that has been working on helping people living in poverty by creating opportunities to millions of people at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) across Nigerian communities. 40% of Nigerians live below the poverty line. It’s a staggering figure when you consider how low that line is in the first place. It gets worse when you consider that the inflation rate is alarmingly high, thereby increasing the price of basic needs like food, accommodation, and water. The average family in Nigeria can not afford any of these necessities to the most basic level. The Nigerian population is in dire need of a solution and it needs one fast.
GBF has attempted to tackle poverty in Nigeria at the grassroots level for the last twenty-one years. It’s a mission we’ve given ourselves over to, building and sustaining families and businesses at the bottom of the economic pyramid. Our vision is to contribute to sustainable economic development led by socially responsible businesses and individuals. It starts and ends with one family, one widowed woman with six children, whose life was transformed from being unable to fend for themselves to a full shop that enables her to pay for the school fees of her kids and live with hope for a brighter day. She’s not the only one. With the help of our partners, volunteers, and staff, we’ve been able to help 20,500 people with multiple projects.
From our ‘Rural Telephone Project’ partnering with MTN FOUNDATION and IFC where we empowered 9,574 beneficiaries across 30 states from 2002 to 2011 with MTN Airtime valued at N20,000 as a loan facility to how we aided 4,000 clients partnering with Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) on Credit Guarantee Scheme through 383 cooperatives trained between 2008 and 2010, in saving N53,318,620 during the period with 90% repayment rate to also partnering with ACT Foundation in empowering 105 women ‘The Entrepreneurial Woman’ in developing their entrepreneur skills and disbursing N6M loan recording a 92% repayment rate, and so on. Even in the most peculiar of seasons, with 2020 bringing in unfamiliar challenges, GBF rose above it to drive effective projects. We executed a project ‘MASK UP’ where we distributed Nose mask and Hand sanitizers to 1000 people at the BOP(Bottom of the pyramid) to reduce the effect of COVID-19 also, partnering with Wecyclers to teach on waste management and waste was collected. We also signed off as an executing partner for Cellulant ‘Connect to Work (C2W) project’, which is aimed at providing 150,000 retail and agricultural work opportunities for Nigerian youths who are between the ages of 18 to 35, spanning across 14 states. Other projects targeted local indigenes with palliatives to support them during the pandemic.
Having built relevant expertise and presence across rural communities, we’re developing a new sustainable business model that will affect 20,000 women in the next year as we celebrate our 21st anniversary. A model that allows us to reach and empower each of them across various divides without limitation to selling a particular good or service at a cost-effective approach. We currently have a community of 4000 women that we empower each with ₦45,000 worth of basket of goods and 200 monitoring staffs ‘Shakti’ with our partner Unilever, and we hope to close the loop to 20,000 women by 2021 with you. We’ve proven that we can do it and with your support, we will.
In our mandate to reaching 20,000 lives and celebrating our 21st anniversary next year, we are bringing our sponsors and partners together, celebrating your contributions to saving the lives of people at the BOP. For every million that you donate, the lives of 10 women will forever be changed.
